BC Rotary Hearing and Balance Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital
Building on over 40 years of support for St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver, the Hearing Foundation has committed to raise $6 million in funds towards the creation of the Rotary Hearing and Balance Centre: A state of the art facility that will revolutionize patient care by operating as a one-stop shop for the latest testing, diagnostics, research, and surgery options for hearing loss patients of all ages.
The Rotary Hearing Foundation donation will be used to fund cutting-edge audiology advancements and stem cell research, the results of which will change the lives of Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals not just in BC, but around the globe.
Rotary Hearing Clinic at St. Paul’s Hospital
This existing referral clinic offers advanced diagnostics for hearing and balance disorders, as well as comprehensive management clinics for Tinnitus patients and those needing specialized audiology, otology, and neurotology care. With our ongoing financial support, the Rotary Hearing Clinic has carried out over 770 life-changing Cochlear Implant Surgeries.

Fundraising

BC Rotary Ride for Hearing
The Rotary Ride for Hearing is a multi-day fundraising event that has raised over $3.8 million dollars for the research, restorative care, and recovery of BC patients with Hearing Loss. First established in 1985, this annual event supports our Deaf & Hard of Hearing communities through rider sponsorships, donation pledges, and corporate contributions.

Grants
To provide the most comprehensive care and support options, we spread our funds amongst a variety of qualified, deserving institutions. This includes the BC Children’s Hospital, the Children’s Hearing and Speech Society of BC, the Hearing Foundation of Canada, the BC Family Hearing Resource Centre, the UBC School of Audiology & Speech Sciences, the Vancouver Community Audiology Centre, and the Vancouver Hearing Centre, to name just a few.
Research

Rotary Hearing Centre at UBC
The Rotary Hearing Centre at UBC was first established in 1989 with the funding of Dr. Dieter Schwartz’s Cochlear Implant research at the School of Audiology and Speech Sciences. Over the last few decades, the Foundation has donated over $1 million towards research efforts and the purchase of equipment focused on treating hearing related disorders.
UBC Clinical Speech Laboratory
In 2012, RCoV’s Hearing Foundation donated $132,700 to establish the University of British Columbia’s Clinical Speech Technology and Audiology Teaching Lab as the premier speech labratory in Canada. This space is an innovative place of learning that trains students in the latest speech therapy methods on their pathway to becoming speech-language pathologists.
