Nestled in the heart of Southeast Asia, Indonesia has emerged as a beacon of peace and diplomacy on the world stage. Rooted in a rich historical tapestry, Indonesia’s journey as a middle power began with its post-colonial independence in 1945. Shaped by leaders like Soekarno and later presidents, the nation adopted a policy of active non-alignment during the Cold War, sowing the seeds for its role as a mediator in global conflicts. In addition to its economic and peacekeeping efforts, Indonesia has also been instrumental in promoting interfaith dialogue and understanding. With its diverse population comprising various ethnicities, languages, and religions, Indonesia stands as a testament to the harmonious coexistence of different cultures and faiths.

For 71 years, Indonesia and Canada have shared a bond rooted in shared values of democracy, human rights, and mutual respect. This longstanding relationship, characterized by trust and cooperation, stands as a symbol of hope in the realm of international diplomacy. As these nations celebrate over seven decades of diplomatic ties, their alliance carries the potential to become a cornerstone for nurturing peace on a global scale.
