Last Meeting December 08, 2020

Gerry Glazier, President, chaired the meeting.
Gabby Dickert, Secretary, hosted the meeting via ZOOM & introduced guests.
Miya Otake played O Canada on her harp via taped video.
President’s Announcements:
  • Welcome to our guests, new and returning, as well as our own members who have taken the time out of their busy lives to be with us today. Thank you for joining us.
  • Thanks to Verona Edelstein for sharing the news regarding Kayo Otake. For those newer members with us, Kayo is a long-time club member who is in the fight of her life, literally. She was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer last year and is currently in Tokyo (her home base) under continuing treatment. Miya, her daughter and our harpist, is with her, as is her 2nd daughter, Kaori. Thoughts and prayers of success go out to Kayo on behalf of all of us.
  • District 5040 has chosen its 2023-24 District Governor: congratulations to Shirley-Pat Chamberlain from RC Steveston.
  • Next week: no formal meeting agenda, it will be a social – an opportunity for us to connect and chat. For newer members, this will be a chance to ask questions and learn about our club and its members. Please join us.
  • Reminder that the District holiday special is next Thursday, Dec 18th @ 6:00 p.m. via ZOOM. We hope that as many of you will be able to attend.
Secretary's announcements:
  • reminders of upcoming events/meetings (see above)
  • birthdays, member club anniversaries, wedding anniversaries (see above)
Member moments and special announcements:
  • Michael Woolnough has new neighbours. A Serbian/Korean couple. Chatting as you do when getting to know your neighbours, Michael mentioned that he's involved with Rotary. Turns out the gentleman is very familiar with Rotary, his Dad founded Rotary in Serbia. It is a small world and we are all connected somehow. Do we have a new member in the offing?
  • Bill Schulz shared that his auntie passed away recently from COVID. She was 95 years old and a remarkable woman. She smuggled Bill from East Germany to the safety of West Germany in 1945. Bill has quite a story that he will share with us once we can meet again in person. We'll look forward to it!
  • John Bathurst shared that lots of clubs in our District have been, and continue to, come up with very innovative fundraising initiatives. The work continues... COVID be darned.
  • Tom Crean suggested as a fundraising idea something that will work while we are meeting via video call -- a reverse draw. Between this and John's information from other clubs, our Fundraising Committee has their work cut out for them.
  • Everyone is looking forward to the COVID vaccines; we all just want to be able to resume our weekly in-person meetings with everyone safe and healthy.
RCOV Annual General Meeting, Gerry Glazier Chair, Gordon Esau Secretary. Quorum was reached, thank you to all who came out for the meeting. All business was completed handily. The minutes will be available soon, covering the following items:
  • Minutes from the 2019 AGM were accepted
  • The 2021-22 Board was presented (see above)
  • Kaz Kadono presented the financial statements. For more information, click on the links below. Note you will need to type your name and email address to access the presentations.
  • Rolfe Benson were appointed as accountants for financial review
VRC Foundation Annual General Meeting was held directly after and all business was completed.
Meeting adjourned with a toast to the continued success of our club.
