The Rotary Hearing Foundation has approved a donation of $20,000 to the Children's Hearing and Speech Centre of BC in support of their First Words program for Newborns to Age 3. For children born with hearing loss, there is a three-year critical window for meaningful brain acquisition of sound. First Words is a year round program for babies, toddlers and their families. Daily routines enhance the acquisition of listening, speech, language and social skills. In addition to the individual sessions that are held at the Centre, as well as the family's home, there are weekly social activities that encourage mutual support and friendships.
The cheque was accepted on behalf of the Children's Hearing and Speech Centre by current Board Member and client of the Centre, Sterling Sunley. Sterling's son Euan attends their Pre-K class.
We are very excited to make this donation and hope that members of the Speech Centre will join us in celebrating our 100th Anniversary on April 19-20, 2013!
