OUR BIKE-A-THON WAS A GREAT SUCCESS!
The Rotary Club of Vancouver's 32nd Annual Bike-A-Thon
was held on July 10th, 2016.
For the second year running it was an amazing event!
This year's ride, once again, raised over $165,000. 168 Riders and Participants joined us for a glorious day and a mountain of fun in Harrison Hot Springs. Every year is another step forward as we help the development of new technologies, new clinical procedures and teaching techniques.
Our ride is 120km from Brentwood Town Centre to Harrison Hot Springs Resort. We have 5 checkpoints along the way for refreshments, security cars enroute in case anyone gets into difficuly, a repair van to assist with those inevitable blown tires and an enthusiastic welcoming committee at the Finish. The resort spas are open for yoiur enjoyment and the day is concluded with a delicious banquet and prizes galore.

ON-LINE REGISTRATION AND PLEDGES
You can register for the Bike-A-Thon 2017 on-line at Register On-Line after January 1st, 2017. Riders must be 13 years of age or older. Helmets are required by law. Online registration will require acceptance of the waiver plus your name, address and email, banquet and transportation requirements.
After you register you will have a personal web page where you can monitor your progress, email friends for support and solicit new riders. Just Login here and enter your email address and password you created when you registered.
As a Donor you can Pledge to a Rider On-Line
As a Rider you have two options:
1. Register as an Individual Rider and ride the 120 km
2. Register as a Member of a Team where each Member rides the full 120km
or rides a portion of the 120km as a member of a Partnership Relay.
Team members who decide to ride as a partnership relay are responsible for transportation of partnership relay team members and their bikes from checkpoint to checkpoint. To register as a partnership relay team member, complete the on-line registration as a Team Member and indicate your desire to ride as a Relay Team member at the conclusion of the Registration process.
This is a fund raiser in support of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing in BC. To participate, each individual Rider and each Team Member must raise a minimum of $300 in pledges.
RIDER CHECK IN ON JULY 9TH, 2017
The ride begins at 6am from the Brentwood Town Centre at the corner of Lougheed Hwy and Willingdon in Burnaby. Riders should arrive between 5:30 and 5:45 and proceed to the registration table to receive their rider number and wrist bands. Please pin the number to the front of your shirt so it can be seen by the checkpoint volunteers. One wrist band is for your bicycle for security purposes.
Attendants will help you in parking your car in the appropriate area where they can be left all day.
Riders can expect to take about 1 hour to reach each checkpoint and most will arrive in Harrison by Noon. Any riders not finished by 2pm will be picked up and driven the rest of the way to Harrison.
An experienced group monitors riders along the route keeping in touch by radio and assisting riders as necessary including help up and down Mount Woodside if required.
A bike repair van is on-call and medical assistance is available along the entire route.
Upon arrival in Harrison, riders can have a light lunch in the Lite Bite room.
The Resort spa and pool facilities are available to all riders and their families. Check the lobby signs for directions to the change rooms and the spas. Pease do not leave clothes or valuables in the change rooms. The rooms are not secure.
The Celebration Banquet is held at 4:30 for Riders and Families. Riders raising over $300 will receive one adult banquet ticket. Those raising over $500 will receive 2 adult banquet tickets plus 2 tickets for children 12 years old and under. Additional tickets can be purchased at the door.
At 6:30 a bus and truck will take riders and their bikes back to Brentwood.
- Pre Banquet Prize Draw for all Riders who raise $300 or more by ride day.
- Special Prize Draws for all Riders raising $300 or more by Ride Day.
- Grand Prize Draws for all Riders raising $500 or more by Ride Day.

"I rode the Rotary Bike A Thon for the first time in 2012 and it turned out to be the best long distance ride I did all year. The reasons were many; friendly volunteers, great cyclists, a great route that was relatively flat ( I am good on the downhils but not so much on uphills) and a lot of socializing. I especially enjoyed the time after the ride lolling in the hot springs in the resort followed by the dinner afterwards where we got to see what a difference Rotary is making to the lives of people with hearing challenges. By raising sponsors for our ride we were able to contribute to this. I suggest gathering a group of friends together and setting goals both for the fund raising and the ride. There is nothing more sastisfying than to be able to contribute to the lives of others no matter how small the contribution. Bike-A-Thon 2010 was a roaring success and we had 10 year old Janelle Milne bring us up to date on her cochlear implant story. The Rotary Club of Vancouver hosts an annual fund raising event in support of the deaf and hard of hearing in British Columbia. Our Bike-A-Thon is celebrating its 32nd Anniversary on July 10, 2016 and, since its inception, has raised over $2.8 million for the Rotary Club of Vancouver Hearing Foundation.
These funds have been used to support cochlear implant research at UBC and to establish the Rotary Hearing Centre at UBC Hospital and the BC Rotary Hearing and Balance Centre at St. Paul’s Hospital. In addition, grants have been made to BC Children’s Hospital, Children’s Hearing and Speech Centre of BC, The Hearing Foundation of Canada, the BC Family Hearing Resource Centre, the UBC School of Audiology & Speech Sciences and the Vancouver Hearing Centre to name just a few.
We would like to invite you to be a part of this exciting event! More than 184 riders participated in the ride last year and raised over $165,000!
There are many ways to support us:
- Become a corporate sponsor;
- Make a corporate donation;
- Raise $300 in pledges or more and ride the 120 km yourself;
- Form a “Challenge Team” of riders from your Company and compete for the Team Cup, which is presented to the Team raising the most in donations or pledges;
- Form a “Partnership Relay” with a spouse, friend and/or relatives, each to ride a portion of the distance with each member raising $300 or more;
- Match a Rider’s total pledges or make a pledge to a Rider. Tax receipts are issued for pledges or donations over $20;
- Donate a prize.
Note: Receipts cannot be issued for corporate sponsorships.
