APTN's Wild Archaeology takes viewers where history happens

From high alpine steep to underwater deep in Lake Huron and far north of Inuvik, APTN’s Wild Archaeology investigates 15,000 (or more) years of human history that colonial record books ignored. Premiering this month, the show is a fresh, rugged reassessment of Indigenous technology, arts and culture as well as an adventure for anyone interested in the great outdoors.

In 13 episodes, co-hosts Jacob Pratt (Dakota/Salteaux) and Jenifer Brousseau (Ojibway/French Canadian) — along with Rudy Reimer/Yumks (Squamish), assistant professor in Simon Fraser University departments of First Nations Studies and Archaeology, and SFU’s Indigenous Research Institute — venture in search of discoveries that enhance the historical record of Indigenous peoples. Along the way, the three prove to be natural born comedians as well as dedicated investigators.

Ralph Towsley presented with first "Ralphie" award

Ralph Towsley, a member of the Rotary Club of Vancouver, was presented with the first "Ralphie" award at the recent Rotary World Help annual general meeting.
Ralph was one of the three Rotarians to start shipping containers to developing countries which led to the formation in 1997 of the Rotary Clubs of the Lower Mainland of British Columbia World Help Network, operating as Rotary World Help (RWH).  Ralph continues to be an active participant at the loadings, the boxing of supplies and is a wealth of information for the continued success of RWH.  The "Ralphie" will be awarded on an annual basis to recognize a Rotarian for "Exceptional Service Above Self".

On September 8th the Vancouver Rotary Club participated in the official beginning of Vancouver's second ever Literacy Month.

The Club’s Community Service Committee approved the Decoda Literacy Project supported by Club President John Bathurst & Club President-Elect Phil Webber.

Vancouver Mayor & local dignitaries attended the event at the City Hall.  The flag-raising took place on this International Literacy Day, designated by UNESCO in 1965.
On behalf of the Club, John Bathurst, Phil Webber, Gerry Glazier, Franz Gehriger & Rene Abi-Rached presented a cheque to Decoda Literacy for $5000 & President John Bathurst was one of the 5 speakers at the event that included the Mayor Greg Robertson & the Decoda Chairman.
That night five local landmarks were lit up in purple to mark UNESCO International Literacy Day. The lightings serve to kick off Decoda Literacy Solution’s month-long Literacy Is Life campaign. The theme for the province-wide fundraising and awareness campaign is ‘Give Someone a Fresh Start’.
The landmarks are: the sails at Canada Place, Harbour Centre’s Lookout Tower, Science World, Vancouver City Hall, and the Parliament Buildings in Victoria.
